Green woodworking – Knife Skills with Groups
This training is for group leaders who want to work with tools with differing ages and abilities. There is an expectation that the participants will have some tool use experience and want to improve their confidence and refresh knowledge.
The course will include:
- Basic whittling techniques and how to teach them to groups
- Ideas for a range of items that are achievable within one session.
- Knife maintenance – sharpening and storage
- Hazel structures using rope – an overview of how to make furniture, seating, ladders and tripods.
About the trainer
What Lucy doesn’t know about working with knives isn’t worth knowing. Previously a National Trust Ranger, Lucy has been a Forest School leader for 15 years and has a deep working knowledge of working with tools and green woodworking. Happiest in the woods, Lucy’s interests in the natural world, human connectivity and well-being have inspired Lucy to focus her work on making learning in nature inclusive, holistic and accessible for all.
